Firing range help please?

a friend of mine, whenever we go to a firing range to test out some simple firearms (Glock/9mm bullet), he's afraid of firing it because it's really loud. i told him to put on those earmuffs/earplugs, yet it's still pretty loud for him. I think next time when we go again, I'm just gonna ask him to put both, ear plugs and earmuffs together. Does that help? haha he wants to fire those guns badly, but he's just afraid cause it's really loud. any help or advice? thanks
