Need Help Running Faster for Tryouts?

I have basketball tryouts this week and I've been conditioning for 2-3 weeks but I just can't seem to hit tat 6 minute mile that we're required to run before the tryouts even begin... what are some ways I can give myself an edge on the track? I was thinking of eating heaps of spaghetti the night before, taking a 5 hour energy at lunchtime the day of tryouts and making sure i'm hydrated throughout the entire day. Any ideas? My mile is about a 6:30.
