Checking my RAM, I'm confused...?

Hard Disk is used to store data. Data will remain on the hard disk even if the power is taken out. It can't accommodate however an Operating System's function because its read/write speed is so slow. The processor working on the OS is relatively very fast. This is where RAM (Random Access Memory) comes in. RAM is very very fast in accessing Data. This is where the processor dumps data that it will frequently use while working on system programs and applications. When your computer boots its actually loading the Operation System onto RAM from your hard disk. Same with any application, it loads data from hard disk to RAM and that's how it works fast. Once you decide to save a file it then gets written onto the hard disk again. Now Everything in RAM will be lost once the power goes off unless it was saved.
